Odd Fellowship in Minnesota
The first Odd Fellow lodge in Minnesota was instituted at Stillwater on August 15, 1849, under the title of Minnesota Lodge No. 1; St. Paul Lodge No. 2 was instituted in St. Paul on May 3, 1850; John G. Potts lodge No.3 was instituted in Minneapolis on May 29,1851; and Hennepin Lodge No. 4 was instituted in St. Paul on June 2, 1852. These four lodges formed the nucleus for the institution of the Grand Lodge of Minnesota, as on September 5, 1852, nine Past Grands from these lodges met in the Odd fellows Hall in St. Paul and adopted a resolution asking the Grand Lodge of the United States to Charter a Grand Lodge in the Minnesota Territory. This request was granted and on May 5, 1853, District Deputy Grand Sire John G. Potts of Illinois instituted the Grand Lodge of Minnesota. Attending this institution, which was held in the Odd Fellow Hall in St. Paul, were eleven Past Grands form the four Minnesota subordinate lodges. From this small beginning, starting more than 150 years ago, Odd Fewllowship in Minnesota had grown to 265 lodges and over 30,000 in membership during the late 1920’s. Today 23 Odd Fellow lodges hold charters and the membership of over 500 strives to maintain the ideals of Friendship . Love , and Truth.
